Students attend Summer Scholar's Program on International Politics
Posted 07/29/2010 03:19PM
Congratulations to Stone Ridge Girls who participated in the Summer Scholar's Program on International Politics that was held on the campus of Georgetown Prep. Participants came from twenty different nations as well as private school students from the Washington metropolitan area. The focus of this year's program was the Islamic Republic of Iran and its influence on international politics.  Glenna Thomas, Lizzie Naylor, Elizabeth Williams, Mary Salmonsen, Beth Glowaki, Beki San Martin, and Tristan Roche focused on nuclear proliferation, women's rights, and oil production. Guest speakers included CNN journalists and policy specialists. The annual program was coordinated by College Counselor, Stephen Maczynski, and Prep's International Director, Ms. Rosita Whitman.

In addition, several students are also taking advantage of a grant that has enabled them to have free instruction in Mandarin Chinese. Georgetown Prep secured the funding through the generosity of a foundation that has also fostered a student exchange with students from Taiwan. In addition to the students above, participants include Haley Kameros and Katherine Funari.
