You can also get a sense of the program by viewing the summer training plan that was shared with returning students a few weeks ago. It is never too late to join, or to reach out to Coach Rook with any questions!

Locker Information
Lockers will not be used for 2020
Although optional, students may choose to decorate, organize and create the perfect locker space that fits their personality and needs. To help facilitate this, below are the locker dimensions, by grade level, as well as other noteworthy details:
Grade 5: 10”W x 16”D x 32”H - These lockers are made of composite material and are not compatible with magnets.
Grade 6-8: 14”W x. 16”D x 32”H - These lockers are metal and are compatible with magnets.
- Lockers contain ample space and students are required to keep all books, binders, laptops, supplies and personal items in their lockers at all times.
- While decorating and accessorizing is encouraged as a fun way to personalize each locker, students should remain aware that organizing with purpose will be helpful during a busy middle school day.
- Locks will be distributed on orientation day.

EdTech & Innovation
Laptops and Screen Time
Summer is a great time of year to play outside, get lost in a book, pick up a hobby, and learn something interesting! We highly recommend that your daughters spend no more than 1-2 hours (less is better!) on any device including their school owned laptops, cell phones, and television. We also recommend that students should not take their school owned devices on trips or camps.
Tech-tidbit to ponder...
What age should my child have a cell phone?
We recommend and believe that a child below Grade 9 does not need a smartphone. If you do need your child to text or call you, we recommend purchasing them a flip phone. Contact the EdTech team to discuss this important topic further and check out the Wait Until 8th campaign.

Summer in Mindfulness
Summer in Mindfulness is a free introductory program offered to the students, parents, faculty and staff of the Stone Ridge community. As the school year draws to a close, the summer ahead remains uncertain and unknown. With shelter-at-home continuing, and normal activities reduced, it is natural for feelings like stress, anxiety, disappointment, loneliness, boredom and fear to arise. Mindfulness can assist you to cultivate a kind, curious attention to all of your experiences during this pandemic, and help you navigate your day with increased equanimity and peace.
This is a seven session course. Each class includes a background talk, instructions, a practice period and a Q&A session. A course outline, handouts and links to video and audio reference sources will be provided. The program is offered live via Zoom, Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7:00 – 8:00 pm. Instructor Biography
Melchior Baltazar has been a mindfulness practitioner for many years, but never so ardently as the present. He is the father of three girls attending Stone Ridge; three teenage daughters at home with nowhere to go. He credits mindfulness with enabling navigation through this estrogen aquarium, the middle way between morning coffee and earlier and earlier afternoon happy hours. Melchior has practiced mindfulness as a reformed attorney, CEO, US Navy SEAL and Ironman Triathlete. He is currently completing the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Teacher program with the Awareness Training Institute and the Greater Good Science Center, UC Berkeley, under the direction of Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.
