Uniforms
Stone Ridge expects all students to be in presentable uniform for the entire school day. The School expects all students to follow the uniform policy. The faculty and staff reserve the right to instruct and review with any student the expectations of good uniform. Beyond the description that follows, the Division Heads and the Dean of Students in the Upper School will determine “in uniform” and “out of uniform” for the students.

DRESS CODE and ATTIRE POLICIES
Guiding Philosophy
We primarily represent ourselves through our actions and our words, but how we dress and our choice of attire also reflects how we regard our community. The dress code is also a means of teaching an important life skill in how to present oneself while embodying the culture of a larger community. Therefore, students, as representatives of the community, will wear their uniforms in a respectful manner that acknowledges Stone Ridge as a place of learning. On Mass, Feast, and other celebratory days, Stone Ridge students will dress in a reverent manner that acknowledges the sacredness of the occasion.
Uniform
There are two types of uniforms in the Middle School: the daily uniform and the dress uniform required on special occasions, including but not limited to the first day of school, Prize Day, liturgies, and guest speaker days. Students should arrive at school in proper uniform. If a student is not in proper uniform, she will be asked to fix her attire or report to the MS office for a replacement. Three violations of the dress code will result in a disciplinary consequence including but not limited to the loss of free dress occasions.
Daily Uniform
- Either solid navy pants or a Black Watch plaid kilt with a length that is no higher than 3” above the knee. Kilts should not be rolled at the waist. In cooler weather, students may wear navy or black tights or leggings under their kilts. Sweatpants are not part of the Middle School dress code.
- A white or navy polo shirt. Shirts are to be tucked in, sleeves unrolled and collars flat. If a student chooses to wear a white t-shirt underneath her uniform shirt, it should be plain white in color, free of writing or logos, and tucked inside the uniform shirt so that it is not visible.
- Socks should be plain white, navy, or black crew socks covering the ankles. Shoe options are:
- White sneakers (the majority must be white, without designs or accent colors)
- 'Dirty Buck’ suede Oxford shoes
- Boat shoes (e.g. Sperry brand or Sperry-like in tan, dark brown or navy)
- Optional Sweatshirt:

Free Dress Days, Gator Gear Days, “Accessorize Your Kilt” Days
Occasionally, the Head of MS will grant “Free Dress Days.” Students are expected to dress appropriately and general guidelines include: no cut-off shorts, no shorts or skirts higher than 3” above the knee, no camisoles or tank tops, no crop-tops, no ripped or torn jeans, and no flip flops or clogs.
On other occasions, the Middle School will have “Gator Gear Days.” On those days, casual wear is acceptable, provided that it is Stone Ridge spirit attire (with similar guidelines as those set for Free Dress Days). At other times throughout the year, Middle School students are given an opportunity to accessorize their kilts with particular colors. While students must wear their kilts and school shoes, they may wear thematic and appropriate shirts, tights, socks, or accessories.
Accessories
The wearing of head attire (such as headphones, earbuds) or hats during the school day is not permitted unless for religious or documented medical purposes. Excessive make-up, tattoos, body piercings other than ears, and writing on the arms, legs, and hands are not permitted. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum and may not be worn during PE classes. In all cases, students are responsible for their own jewelry.
