Stone Ridge Athletics – Approach to Athletics

Providing Opportunity, Celebrating Excellence

At Stone Ridge, we believe that all children are athletes. As a Catholic School and a member of a worldwide network of Sacred Heart Schools, Stone Ridge emphasizes the total development of mind, body, and faith through education, considering Athletics to be an integral part of the educational experience.

Athletics and Physical Education provide opportunities for students to develop physically, mentally, and emotionally. We view athletic competition as a healthy educational and physiological activity that challenges each student to not only excel on the scoreboard, but to discover and become aware of individual physical limits, while collaborating collectively to achieve as a team.

Currently, Stone Ridge offers more than 50 girls sports team opportunities to students in Grades 5-12, a program difficult for any school to match. Competing on a sports team at Stone Ridge provides our student-athletes the privilege and responsibility to represent the School, the student body, the sport, their team, and our greater community to the best of their abilities. In doing so, our student-athletes are empowered to learn and develop life skills that will serve them for years to come both in and out of physical competition. Stone Ridge girls that participate on a sports teams are often the highest achieving students in academics and extracurricular activities, frequently crediting their higher levels of self-esteem, perseverance, time management, discipline, leadership, confidence, and an overall recognition of the importance of teamwork and respect to their athletic experiences.

In execution of our vision to be a model interscholastic athletics and physical education department that offers programming to serve the whole child, our goal is to guide your daughters to be successful scholars, competitive athletes, and physically aware young women. This goal is realized through the opportunities provided and environment cultivated that encourages Stone Ridge girls to be the best versions of themselves, both physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

SR Athletics: Leadership & Character Development Programs

In addition to team-based athletic programming, the Stone Ridge Department of Athletics has incorporated leadership and character development programming for our student-athletes in collaboration with several organizations, notably including the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), Play Like a Champion, and Strive: How You Lead Matters. Progressive programming is made available annually to all upper school student-athletes, as well as our coaches and parents.

In addition to designated team leadership roles, such as a team captain, the Department of Athletics also supports a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), comprised of representatives from each varsity program, giving the student-athletes a voice for their respective programs while strengthening the collaborative nature of the Department. SR student leaders are the backbone of each Stone Ridge athletic team. These student leaders work across campus to promote the sense of community through athletics, lead school spirit initiatives throughout the year, and exhibit our student-derived athletic department core values of Teamwork, Dedication, and Success.
