Head Coach: Katie Howard
Katie Filipczyk Howard has been coaching at Stone Ridge since 2014. Her Gator coaching career highlights include coaching of MS track and field, helping to create the MS cross-country program, coaching MS Gold volleyball, and assistant coaching the US track and field team. Katie also assists the SR Athletic Department in teaching some physical education classes at both the middles and upper school levels.
In addition to coaching, Katie is a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and a former NCAA athlete. She ran cross-country and track and field for American University and was coached by Olympian Matt Centrowitz. She earned both a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in Interactive Journalism from American University. Katie’s former journalism career includes writing, reporting and copy editing for USA Today and WTOP.com. She created the “Good to Go” blog for WTOP reporting on fitness, health and wellness topics.
Katie began running competitively at 12 years old and has no plans to stop. She plans to add to her list of 11 completed marathons. Outside of Stone Ridge, Katie coaches the Blessed Sacrament CYO Cross-Country team and the Chevy Chase Elementary Girls on the Run program. Katie resides in Chevy Chase with her husband Steve and her two daughters Hannah and Heidi.
