Head of School Catherine Ronan Karrels ’86 reflects on the enduring power of all-girls education to cultivate confidence, voice, and leadership in generations of young women. 

Through the Grade 1 Community Helper Project, students connect classroom learning to real life while seeing women leaders and community helpers who inspire them to imagine their own ability to make a difference.

Stone Ridge’s production of Newsies JR. was more than a musical—it was a powerful lesson in leadership, collaboration, and courage. From center stage to backstage, Middle School students seized the day to lead, support one another, and discover what’s possible when girls are empowered to raise their voices together.

At Stone Ridge, leadership begins in the earliest grades through small acts of service, responsibility, and care for others. Traditions like Prîmes and Pink Ribbon jobs help Lower School students discover that true leadership is rooted not in recognition, but in compassion, community, and the confidence to make a difference.

In this edition of Stone Ridge Magazine, we explore Goal III—highlighting how students, faculty, and alumnae live out our Sacred Heart mission through faith, learning, and service. From inspiring student projects and initiatives to the achievements of the Class of 2025, these stories celebrate a community committed to justice, leadership, and global awareness.

The Barat Medal recognizes those leaders who have made a significant difference and who have helped shape the destiny of the School. It is the highest honor that Stone Ridge presents to any non-student of the School.
