The Power of Girls' Education: A Global Conversation at Stone Ridge
Seton Brems Keenan ’13, Digital Marketing Assistant

Girls’ education is a vital force for empowerment and change. As a leader in all-girls education for more than a century, Stone Ridge was honored to be selected by the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools (ICGS) to host its February conference, the Educating Girls Symposium, on campus. In conjunction with the symposium, Stone Ridge also welcomed the Close Up Foundation’s Empowering Girls’ Voices Student Summit and the ICGS Girls’ School Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Educators Think Tank.

On a snowy February day, Stone Ridge hosted 375 symposium participants representing 43 schools across the United States, Canada, and Guatemala. During keynote addresses, Dr. Barbara Bell, Ed.D., Capt. US Navy (ret.), a pioneer in women’s naval aviation, and Dora Palfi Osika, co-founder and CEO of imagi, shared powerful perspectives on the importance of uplifting young women through all-girls education.

More than 45 unique breakout sessions featured thought-leaders from across the country presenting innovative ideas for how to best educate girls. Six of these breakout sessions were led by groups of Stone Ridge faculty and staff, who shared with the community the programs and practices that keep Stone Ridge at the forefront of girls’ education.

The day was an inspiring opportunity to connect educators in a shared mission: empowering the next generation of women leaders. Thank you to our partners at ICGS and to the many educators and leaders who believe in the transformative power of girls’ schools and are committed to helping young women lead and make a difference in the world. ❤
