Beauty and the Beast

In April, Upper School students debuted their first musical, Beauty and the Beast, in the new Cokie Boggs Roberts ’60 Theater. The cast of 30 and crew of 15 put on a brilliant show. Stone Ridge’s drama program was able to expand and stretch creativity due to the new theater in the Mater Center.

Students lead the production from start to finish. In addition to performing, they built the set, managed sound and lighting, and made costumes. We venture to say, it was the biggest production in Stone Ridge history performed in front of a record number of attendees, with nearly sold out shows each night in the theater seating 420. Director Sandra Blakeslee said, "That we were able to come back from years of pandemic and finish our return season so strongly with Beauty and the Beast was due to the dedication of every member of the creative staff, the crew, and the cast working together, dedicating their time and their skills toward the final product."

Enjoy this documentary of Beauty and the Beast and hear from the actors, crew, and the director. Head of School Catherine Ronan Karells ’86 reflects, “This is an amazing film to capture the remarkable experience of putting together a full-scale musical. It speaks volumes about the value of the arts program in the life of a student. Think of all the skills they learned, the confidence they gained, the community they built, the fun they had. Incredible.”
