Katherine Strong ‘22 will graduate from Stone Ridge this year as the most accomplished Cross Country and Track & Field athlete in school history. The Dartmouth-bound Gator now holds the all-time top SR times in 12 individual events and 1 relay team event.
Not only are her race results at an elite level and academic records on par, but Head Cross Country Coach, Peter Rook, notes that “Katherine’s greatest achievements may be the impact she has made as a teammate and role model. She is always excited to be at a Stone Ridge practice and emanates a positive and focused routine that has helped lead the team culture. Katherine is always ready to run with anyone on the team - supporting novice and veteran athletes alike. She has inspired and encouraged generations of Stone Ridge athletes, helping to create a lasting culture of sustainable success and growth. She has handled all the ups and downs of an endurance athlete - injuries, fatigue, dips in performance - with honesty and maturity, keeping a steady focus and reliably coming through with great performances when the stakes are highest.”
In her senior year Katherine finished 21st at the South Regional XC Championships, 13th in the mile at New Balance Indoor Nationals, and was one of only 15 high school athletes invited to race the Mile at the Penn Relays, where she finished 8th. Katherine's winning time of 4:55.79 in the 1600 set the ISL championship meet record. She was undefeated in the 1600 and 3200 during the 2022 outdoor track season.
