Multicultural Festival

On April 14, we celebrated our Multicultural Festival –– Cultural Identity: A Spotlight on Intersectionality and a Celebration of our Diversity. This annual event was planned and led by the Upper School’s Student Diversity Coalition (Alex Filas ‘21, Sofia Morra ‘21, Paige Kenny ‘22, and Giselle Sonnier ‘23) to celebrate the diversity within and outside of our community.

Our keynote speaker was Stone Ridge alumna Brenda Crawley, Class of ‘78. Go Gold Team! She is a Cum Laude graduate of Manhattanville College with a Bachelor of Music and a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the Johns Hopkins University – Carey ––usiness School with an MS in Organizational Development. Brenda is currently the Head of School of Plymouth Meeting Friends School in Plymouth, Pennsylvania since July 2019. Prior to this she served as Head of Lower School at Sandy Spring Friends School for eight years. She was previously Head of the Lower School at the McLean School of Maryland where she began her career as a Music Teacher. Brenda is a regular presenter on a variety of subjects relating to early childhood education as well as race, inclusion and diversity.

The Upper School students also participated in DCG presentations, Affinity groups, and Ted Talk discussions. Middle School students learned steps for the Jerusalema Socially Distant Line Dance (Led by teachers Ms. Levere, Dr. Basney, and Ms. Hitchens). In the Lower School, Upper School students from Diversity Cultural Groups shared multicultural goûter recipes from around the world.
