Science & the Sacred: Backpacking the Dolly Sods
This summer, two groups of Upper School students went on adventures in experiential outdoor learning in West Virginia’s Dolly Sods Wilderness with Upper School Science Teacher, Sky Lesnick and Upper School English Teacher, Holly Zindulis. On these six-day, five-night trips, they backpacked the myriad ecosystems of the Dolly Sods, from the spruce forests and mountain laurel thickets of Red Creek to the blueberry fields of the North Sods and the breathtaking views at Rohrbaugh Cliffs and Bear Rocks.
Faith in Action with the Appalachia Service Project
On Stone Ridge’s seventh annual service trip with Appalachia Service Project (ASP), seventeen Upper School students and six members of the faculty and staff spent the first week of summer volunteering in Clay County, West Virginia. ASP’s mission is to make homes warmer, safer, and drier throughout Central Appalachia.
